Riding my bike for 59 miles in celebration of my 59th birthday was a challenging but rewarding experience that I accomplished on a hot very hot summers day riding from Harrogate, TN to Jonesville, VA. along the wilderness parkway on HWY 58. This ride was a little different than last years ride when I rode 58 miles for 58 years seeing that it was a day that included thoughts in honor of my Dad Carrol Roop the one who initially inspired me onward towards this journey of riding a bicycle and more specifically cycling. It all started when he gave me instructions about riding his last bicycle before his passing from this life some years ago. Whenever his bicycle was handed down to me (After my father had passed away from a long battle with Alzheimer’s,) I had thought of many ways in which I could keep his memory and spirit alive in not only myself but also friends and family and others who knew him well. So then one day as I glanced around the side of my Toyota there stood by its self was this bicycle that he once rode next to my truck tucked away under my front porch weathered by outside elements and tied to a 4×4 hardwood post. I think at this time that my dad must have said son here is my bike you can ride it at anytime that you wish. Concurrently, it was at that point that I proceeded with airing up the tires, oiling the rusty chain, clean up the drivetrain , and checked the brakes. After completing the much needed tuneup, I started riding this bike around the block first and eventually a few miles down the road until I felt much invegorated and inspired by the thoughts and words of my dads voice of approval. To make a long story short, I have now been riding for about 5 years now and have traveled many miles in memorandum of many individuals family and friends and most of all my Dad Carroll Roop! Thanks Dad👍
I have concluded that Inspiration from my Dad is what I needed to be more effective, powerful, and yet stronger when trying to obtain weight loss and fitness. Furthermore, his brother motivation could kick willpower’s butt any day of the week including weekends and holidays.
I know what you are thinking! this guy is trying to sell me something that I do not need or can afford. Some gymyic piece of gnarley equipment that I can place under my bed or in my basement for quick retrieval until the time I need a painless workout. He wants a get quick rich scheme enabling himself to make tons on money right? No, I am just illustrating the enormous possibilities when the human spirit has been inspired by external positive influences to accomplish the task at hand that seams impossible to pursue. My Dad gave me the motivation to ride. You also have many connections that could lead you down the path of successful weight loss and fitness results. It starts with inspiration from someone or something that is just as strong as the thought of riding for 59 miles on your 59th birthday in honor of your Dad.
